Here in Britain, people with guns are out at night shooting badgers (Meles meles) as planned. So says Owen Paterson, our Secretary of State for Environment Food and Rural Affairs. On Monday this week, Mr Paterson announced that the cull was underway.
This is about bovine tuberculosis (bTB). You can read more under my ‘badger’ and ‘tuberculosis’ tags. I’m writing a more detailed post than this one but just now, I’m showing you Mr Paterson’s statement.

About argylesock
I wrote a PhD about veterinary parasitology so that's the starting point for this blog. But I'm now branching out into other areas of biology and into popular science writing. I'll write here about science that happens in landscapes, particularly farmland, and about science involving interspecific interactions. Datasets and statistics get my attention. Exactly where this blog will lead? That's a journey that I'm on and I hope you'll come with me.
This is so egregious!!!!!!!
You’ve taught me a new word there!
I’m glad something positive can come out of this. Ha-Ha! 🙂
A favorite blogger of mine has also posted about the cull.

Thanks for this. I sometimes read Jim Robertson’s blog over there. Today, I’ve commented on his badger-cull post offering the link to Mr Paterson’s statement.
