Monsanto announced this week that it has acquired The Climate Corporation. Here’s Monsanto’s press release.
Both of these companies are based in the United States but operate worldwide. Monsanto is about seeds, traits (genes and characteristics) and herbicides (weedkillers). You could follow this link to read how Monsanto says that it’s a ‘sustainable agriculture company’.
The Climate Corporation is about insurance. You could follow this link to read how the Climate Corporation ‘aims to help farmers around the world protect and improve their farming operations with uniquely powerful software and insurance products.’ You could follow this link to read how the Climate Corporation sells ‘Total Weather Insurance’ to farmers growing corn (maize, Zea mays), soybeans (Glycine max) and winter wheat (Triticum aestivum).
Another sign that we are moving to a world food system controlled by a handful of corporations (if we are not at that point already!).
It seems that way at times, doesn’t it?
