When I blog about Europe, are you confused? Sometimes I am, and I’m European! Here’s a film explaining the European Union.

Here’s how the European Union explains itself. That website, er, might help.

About argylesock

I wrote a PhD about veterinary parasitology so that's the starting point for this blog. But I'm now branching out into other areas of biology and into popular science writing. I'll write here about science that happens in landscapes, particularly farmland, and about science involving interspecific interactions. Datasets and statistics get my attention. Exactly where this blog will lead? That's a journey that I'm on and I hope you'll come with me.

There’s a way the EU works?
I am English and I have been wondering about that for some years now.

I have less difficulty getting my mind around the concept of Europe than I do the concept of the UK.

Especially now that Scotland is sort of independent. What’s confusing to me is that you have four “countries” that more or less act most of the time as if they are a single nation. One seat in the UN, one Olympic team, one membership in the EU, but theoretically four football teams for the World Cup.
